Role Overview

AlphaSense is expanding its AI-powered market intelligence platform beyond traditional search by introducing SuperAnalyst workflows that deliver crucial updates to users on the go. Delivering native mobile experiences requires robust backend support to handle continuously evolving services while apps remain in users' hands. Operating from the Mobile Engineering department, this role connects directly with customer needs to steer backend architecture across multiple engineering organizations. The position involves determining architectural priorities, resolving cross-team engineering challenges, and guiding implementations directly into production environments.

Key Responsibilities

Establish technical strategies for client-facing APIs and underlying backend architectures.
Collaborate across application, search, AI, and shared platform teams to simplify service connectivity and streamline product workflows.
Direct the delivery of services and subsystems bridging team boundaries, handling everything from technical design to hands-on implementation and production validation.
Partner with user management and platform groups to evolve session management, authentication, and user access across platforms.
Mentor fellow engineers to deepen their technical judgment, share reusable patterns, and elevate overall system ownership.
Engage with senior leadership, product teams, and customers to secure agreement on core architectural investments.

Requirements

Extensive background in backend and distributed-systems engineering, covering service boundaries, data ownership, integration models, and failure recovery.
Demonstrated success simplifying intricate architectures to create positive impacts across multiple business domains.
Strong hands-on coding ability with meaningful contributions to production codebases and system evolution.
Proven skill in analyzing unfamiliar codebases and transforming investigations into sound technical decisions.
Experience engineering client-facing REST and GraphQL APIs with careful consideration of product states and backward compatibility.
Awareness of mobile lifecycle and network restrictions and how they influence backend engineering choices.
Solid grasp of authentication, authorization, session management, and the security implications tied to client-service interactions.
Practical expertise in observability, performance optimization, and boosting customer-visible reliability.
Track record of leading technical shifts across teams through influence rather than direct reporting lines.

Nice to Have

Background building production systems dedicated to AI-driven search, research, or analysis tools.
Familiarity with enterprise identity frameworks, Auth0, Microsoft identity, or MDM/MAM ecosystems.
Experience establishing shared configuration or service discovery for multi-tenant platforms and dedicated customer setups.
Exposure to event-driven architectures, including publish/subscribe systems or event streaming via Kafka.
