About this role
Cohere needs a storytelling engine to scale its narrative among governments and enterprises, and this hire will build the public relations and communications function from the ground up in the APAC region. Operating within a cross-functional team, the PR Director will partner with global corporate communications to establish regional plans that fuel growth across highly-regulated industries. The ideal candidate is someone who likes taking big swings, navigates organizational dynamics easily, and thrives in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
The person in this role will shape regional communications plans, nurture messaging for customers, partners, and employees, and hire PR managers and agencies across key territories including Korea, Singapore, Japan, India, and Australia. They will act as a central communications hub, ensure consistency across internal and external channels, and integrate AI tools to enhance content ideation and creation. Success requires exceptional writing talent, deep familiarity with pre-IPO communications, and experience advising senior leaders.
What you will do
- Build a PR and Communications function from scratch by hiring PR managers and agencies in key APAC territories.
- Implement corporate communications strategies that align with brand positioning for both internal and external audiences.
- Collaborate with marketing, sales, and external stakeholders to craft messaging that supports business priorities and market positioning.
- Oversee high-impact forums such as executive speaking engagements, industry conferences, and internal leadership gatherings.
- Adopt AI integration within the communications team to enhance content ideation, creation, and scaling.
- Manage crisis and issues communications preparedness in partnership with corporate communications and legal teams.
- Serve as a central communications hub to ensure seamless messaging across internal communications, external PR, and marketing touchpoints.
What you need
- Possess 12 to 15 years of experience in-house corporate communications within a fast-paced, high-growth tech or AI environment.
- Bring at least 5 years of experience in people management.
- Demonstrate proven experience in hiring, onboarding, and managing PR agencies.
- Show a strong background in pre-IPO communications.
- Have experience or a heavy interest in policy and regulatory communications.
- Act as an exceptional writer capable of distilling complex topics into simple narratives.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and communications business partner to senior leaders and executives.
