Role Overview

Cohere is hiring a full-time Member of Technical Staff focused on Pre-Training Data for the Modeling department, available as a remote position or based in Toronto. This professional will design and optimize the foundational data pipelines that power cutting-edge enterprise language models. It is an ideal role for an experienced machine learning expert who wants to bridge the gap between raw information and advanced artificial intelligence.

Key Responsibilities

Execute data ablations to measure quality and test various data mixtures to boost overall model performance.
Build reliable data modeling methods to properly structure and format datasets for maximum training efficiency.
Research and deploy creative data curation strategies utilizing the company infrastructure to advance natural language processing.
Partner closely with multidisciplinary teams of engineers and researchers to align data pipelines with the needs of frontier language models.

Requirements

Solid software engineering capabilities featuring fluency in Python alongside background in creating data pipelines.
Prior exposure to curriculum learning, data attribution, and data mixing concepts.
Working knowledge of data processing platforms like Pandas, Apache Beam, Apache Spark, or similar technologies.
Practical background handling large-scale datasets spanning multilingual corpora, code data, and web content.
Understanding of techniques used for data quality evaluation and data mixture experimentation.

Nice to Have

Published papers at premier venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AIStats, MLSys, JMLR, AAAI, Nature, COLING, ACL, or EMNLP.
