Role Overview

Abridge is hiring Software Engineering Interns for the Fall 2026 program to collaborate with the engineering team for three months, with a possibility of extension. Interns work from the San Francisco office five days per week with relocation support provided through reimbursements. The role involves designing and shipping real-world features that turn language model capabilities into dependable clinical systems with mentorship from experienced software engineers.

Key Responsibilities

Design and build end-to-end features to enhance existing systems and contribute to agentic large language model workflows including retrieval pipelines, structured tool use, and chained language model calls.
Fix user-facing bugs, address issues, and make quality-of-life improvements across backend and frontend systems.
Work with evaluation frameworks to measure accuracy, robustness, and clinical reliability.
Help prototype with new models, prompting techniques, and open-source orchestration tools.
Develop a user-centric mindset and build empathy for clinicians and their challenges.
Collaborate across cross-functional product teams such as design, product, machine learning, and infrastructure to ship features to customers.
Receive guidance from an experienced software engineering mentor and collaborate one-on-one with pod teammates.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
Strong interest in pursuing a full-time software engineering role in 2027, as high-performing interns are eligible for a return offer.
Familiarity with using AI tooling to write, debug, and learn faster while knowing when to trust versus verify.
Passion for and understanding of the company mission.
Curious, adaptable, and proactive mindset with a desire to learn and grow in a startup environment.
Collaborative, low-ego mindset as a team player eager to contribute wherever needed.
Willingness to work from the San Francisco office five times per week.
