About this role

The ideal candidate for the ITAV Event Technical Producer is someone who thrives in complex, multi-site technical environments and enjoys bridging the gap between abstract requirements and tangible, flawless live delivery. This role sits within OpenAI’s IT organization, which is dedicated to supporting the mission of deploying artificial general intelligence. The producer will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of technical production for internal and external events, managing everything from initial planning and scoping through rehearsal and live execution. A successful individual will be adept at coordinating diverse internal and external crews, managing cross-site handoffs, and applying technical expertise to navigate complex production challenges.

This position is crucial for ensuring that employees and stakeholders are well-equipped to contribute effectively to AI research, corporate operations, and product initiatives. The role involves translating ambiguous needs into concrete production plans, configuring and operating various live media systems, and establishing standardized production practices. Furthermore, there is a strong emphasis on process improvement, requiring the producer to build reusable production frameworks and explore AI workflows to enhance how teams deliver events.

This role suits a highly autonomous individual who can take ownership of technical risk, prioritize tradeoffs independently, and mentor others while driving systemic improvements. If you enjoy leading technical execution, process design, and collaborating across multiple disciplines to achieve a cohesive audience experience, this opportunity aligns well with your capabilities.

What you will do

  • Lead the technical production for complex internal, hybrid, and distributed events, spanning from early planning through rehearsal, live delivery, and debrief.
  • Align internal communications, marketing, brand experience, and workplace aspects with audience goals to establish clear production plans and readiness criteria.
  • Configure and operate live audio, video switching, cameras, playback, conferencing, streaming, and recording systems for the production.
  • Integrate the run of show across multiple sites and manage global crews to coordinate technical cues, handoffs, and contingencies.
  • Lead rehearsals to validate the complete audience experience, including remote contribution, playback, and backup paths.
  • Independently prioritize technical production tradeoffs, lead risk reviews, manage incident response, and resolve scope ambiguity.
  • Build reusable production plans, show files, and runbooks, and coach team members on their independent use.
  • Identify repeatable production tasks and develop AI and agentic workflows with partner teams to measure preparation improvements.

What you need

  • Demonstrated experience leading complex live or hybrid productions involving multiple teams, managing the process from ambiguous requirements to final delivery.
  • Advanced expertise across multiple live-production domains, such as audio, video switching, conferencing, streaming, or AV-over-IP, along with the ability to diagnose issues across the entire signal path.
  • Proven experience configuring and operating professional production systems and developing reusable show files or control workflows.
  • Practical knowledge of AV-over-IP and networking sufficient to troubleshoot live media timing and connectivity issues with engineering partners.
  • Experience independently resolving ambiguous production problems, setting detailed plans, and prioritizing tradeoffs while knowing when to seek guidance for complex decisions.
  • Demonstrated ownership over rehearsals, technical readiness, failover testing, and maintaining calm incident response during high-priority events.
  • Ability to lead crews and influence partner teams effectively without formal reporting authority, maintaining clear boundaries for various decisions.
  • Experience building reusable production frameworks and validated AI workflows, including guiding team adoption and mentoring staff.
