About this role

Public sector institutions in the UK, Middle East, and Latin America often struggle to navigate complex regulatory, security, and sovereignty environments while trying to adopt frontier artificial intelligence. To solve this challenge, OpenAI for Government brings together cross-functional partners so international organizations can deploy AI safely and effectively.

In this role, a Global Account Director will lead public-sector work across these regions by building trusted relationships with government leaders and driving full-cycle sales strategies. This person manages complex accounts from initial interest through deployment, working closely with technical and legal teams to align AI capabilities with public missions. An ideal candidate brings extensive public-sector experience, diplomatic judgment under ambiguity, and the ability to operate credibly in sensitive settings without day-to-day direction.

What you will do

  • Own a focused portfolio of public-sector accounts across the UK, Middle East, and Latin America.
  • Build and execute comprehensive account plans mapping mission priorities, stakeholders, procurement paths, and long-term expansion opportunities.
  • Drive complex opportunities through the full sales cycle from pipeline generation and capture to commercial negotiation and closure.
  • Lead public-sector customers through their AI adoption journey by connecting mission outcomes to product capabilities and limitations.
  • Translate requirements between government leaders, technical teams, and internal engineering partners.
  • Serve as the accountable customer lead for engagements tied to clear milestones, adoption measures, and commercial commitments.
  • Collaborate with global system integrators, cloud providers, and local delivery partners to shape joint deployment models.

What you need

  • Have at least 10 years of experience in government, diplomacy, national security, public-sector technology sales, consulting, or a related field with ownership of complex customer outcomes.
  • Demonstrate direct experience in government, foreign affairs, or international organizations, or significant experience working with such customers in regulated environments.
  • Possess a strong record of shaping and closing complex cross-border deals including account planning, stakeholder mapping, and negotiations.
  • Bring executive presence for senior diplomats, ministers, and government leaders alongside credibility with technical and security stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of public-sector procurement, contracting, data-residency, sovereignty, and compliance requirements across multiple markets.
  • Maintain enough AI and enterprise-technology fluency to explain product capabilities, limitations, and responsible-use trade-offs to government audiences.
  • Show high ownership, exceptional communication, diplomatic judgment under ambiguity, and a willingness to travel internationally.

Nice to have

  • Deep relationships across international organizations, regional bodies, development institutions, foreign affairs, defence, or national security communities.
  • Experience developing opportunities across more than one Middle East or Latin America market with exposure to international organizations.
  • Experience with AI/ML, cloud, data platforms, cybersecurity, API-based products, or regulated cross-border technology deployments.
  • Experience moving a complex cross-border opportunity from early mission discovery through procurement and deployment governance to measurable outcomes.

Benefits

  • Relocation assistance to new employees
