About this role

Role Overview

The General Ledger Accountant is a full-time finance position based in Chicago, IL, reporting directly to the General Ledger Manager. This role is well-suited for an emerging accounting professional who wants to build technical expertise in core general ledger operations while collaborating with a high-performing team.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain lease schedules, prepare monthly journal entries under ASC 842, and reconcile right-of-use asset and lease liability accounts.
Process and review employee expense reports via Emburse, reconcile corporate credit card transactions, and follow up on missing receipts.
Perform daily and monthly bank transaction uploads, ensuring accurate coding and prompt resolution of discrepancies.
Prepare reconciliations for assigned areas, complete month-end close tasks on schedule, and maintain audit-ready documentation.
Support audit requests, adhere to internal controls, and assist with process improvements.
Manage fixed asset depreciation and amortization schedules for computers, furniture, equipment, and vehicles.
Prepare and post monthly intercompany clearing journal entries and reconcile related accounts.

Requirements

Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
Possess 1 to 3 years of accounting experience involving month-end close processes, general ledger entries, and balance sheet reconciliations.
Demonstrate proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP or XLOOKUP functions.
Exhibit strong attention to detail, excellent time-management skills, and proactive communication abilities.
Work effectively both independently and within a collaborative team setting.

Nice to Have

Familiarity with ASC 842 lease accounting standards.
Prior experience utilizing expense management platforms like Emburse.
Experience working with NetSuite or comparable ERP systems.

Salary and Benefits

Annual base salary ranging from $75,000 to $85,000, determined by geographic region, knowledge, skills, and experience.
