Fullstack Software Engineer, Child Safety Tools & Systems
About this role
Developing data-intensive and AI-powered applications forms the core of daily work, enabling operators and investigators to execute high-severity safety tasks effectively. Engineers prototype, build, and maintain intelligence systems that detect, triage, and facilitate human review while navigating ambiguous environments to deliver reliable tooling.
The Intelligence & Investigations Engineering team partners with the Child Safety group and cross-functional teams to disrupt abuse across products and protect users. Responsibilities span full-stack development, from user interfaces and services to data pipelines, alongside contributing to technical strategy and reporting on impact in a data-driven manner. Candidates must note that the position involves exposure to sensitive and egregious content.
Ideal candidates bring a strong software engineering foundation and a product-minded approach to end-to-end system ownership. People who thrive here enjoy integrating new models and APIs into practical systems, designing for operational workflows, and adapting quickly in fast-moving, low-support scenarios.
What you will do
- Prototype, build, and maintain intelligence systems designed to detect, triage, and enable efficient human review of possible high-severity harm.
- Collaborate directly with operators and investigators to design and deliver systems that enhance the speed, accuracy, and safety of their workflows.
- Develop across the full technical stack, building user interfaces, services, pipelines, and any other components necessary to solve engineering problems.
- Interact closely with partners across Product Policy, Platform Integrity, Safety Systems, and Research.
- Contribute directly to the team's technical strategy, placing a particular emphasis on child safety tools and systems.
- Measure and report on system impact in a data-driven fashion.
What you need
- Bring 4 or more years of professional experience as a software engineer.
- Demonstrate a strong software engineering foundation with the ability to own systems end-to-end, spanning infrastructure, data ingestion, and frontend tooling.
- Possess experience in building and operating large-scale data pipelines or search and retrieval systems.
- Show proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript, alongside familiarity with tools such as Spark, Kafka, Flink, data warehouses, and SQL.
- Approach product development thoughtfully by keeping user workflows in mind and iterating rapidly based on feedback.
Nice to have
- Prior experience working on engineering for high-severity harms
- Intuition for the pain points and workflows of operations and investigative teams, with curiosity about solving complex investigations
- Prior knowledge of child-safety-specific challenges, including the secure handling of quarantined content and reporting to NCMEC
Benefits
