About this role

Scale AI is seeking a Forward Deployed Product Manager for the Public Sector to shape real production outcomes across military planning and real-time AI capabilities in New York, NY or Washington, DC. This high-impact role suits an experienced product leader with defense domain expertise who can translate complex operational challenges into high-signal inputs for core platforms.

Role Overview

The Forward Deployed Product Manager owns product outcomes for a cross-cutting portfolio of artificial intelligence and data capabilities tailored for the U.S. Department of War and the national security industry. This professional bridges the gap between field reality and platform engineering by building trusted advisory relationships with senior military and civilian stakeholders. The individual drives end-to-end deployments from initial contract to production inside classified environments while identifying where the product acts as a bottleneck versus execution constraints.

Key Responsibilities

Own product outcomes across military planning portfolios and national security accounts for real-time AI and alerting capabilities.
Translate operational workflows, latency constraints, and mission priorities into specific, evidence-backed product perspectives and tradeoffs for engineering teams.
Build trusted advisory relationships with senior military leaders, national security stakeholders, and technical leads, serving as a reliable escalation point.
Drive software deployments from contract to production within classified, operationally constrained settings.
Distinguish product constraints from policy, integration, or change management issues and direct blockers through the appropriate channels.
Shape cross-cutting solutions that serve multiple stakeholders and echelons rather than single point deployments.
Partner closely with Forward Deployed Engineering and Platform Capability teams to ensure coordinated account operations.
Identify and foster expansion opportunities based on demonstrated customer value.
Travel as required to customer sites, including classified facilities.

Requirements

Active TOP SECRET security clearance, with TS/SCI eligibility preferred.
At least 6 years of experience in product management, technical program management, or a customer-facing product ownership role.
Direct experience working alongside the U.S. Department of War or the broader U.S. national security community.
Working knowledge of military planning processes like the Joint Planning Process and modeling systems like AFSIM, or real-time streaming data architectures and event-driven pipelines.
Demonstrated record of successfully shipping AI or data products into large, constrained, classified, or highly regulated organizations beyond proofs-of-concept.
Ability to operate effectively with senior leadership and engineers simultaneously, maintaining a credible presence under pressure.
Availability to travel as needed to classified facilities.

Nice to Have

Direct experience with AI and machine learning platform products, agentic capabilities, large-scale data, labeling, fine-tuning workflows, and model evaluation pipelines.
Hands-on familiarity with streaming technologies such as Kafka, Flink, or Kinesis.
Background in a startup or early-stage environment requiring self-created processes.
Prior forward-deployed or embedded field roles in consulting, solutions engineering, or product ownership.
Previous military service or Department of Defense civilian experience in operations, planning, or acquisitions.
