The Field Engineer, Data Engine position at Scale AI is an onsite engineering role based in Colorado Springs, Omaha, St. Louis, and Washington, DC, designed for technical professionals who want to support federal government customers. This position suits individuals experienced in backend systems, data pipelines, and client-facing engineering within secured environments.

Key Responsibilities

Scope and build onsite technical solutions that integrate Scale AI's platform with existing government customer systems and workflows.
Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to shape the strategy for data agents and pipelines.
Build and execute end-to-end data integrations to synchronize customer information back and forth with the primary platform.
Install and upkeep Scale software directly at designated customer locations, requiring over 50 percent onsite presence in secured areas.
Engineer tailored features requested by clients and engage closely with stakeholders to understand unique technical demands.
Construct stable backend applications that function as standalone tools to fast-track customer artificial intelligence goals.

Requirements

Hold a minimum of an active Secret security clearance, along with the readiness to secure a TS/SCI clearance.
Background in data engineering involving ETL procedures, data warehousing, governance, and structural modeling.
Proven history of success acting as a forward-deployed software engineer or hybrid client-facing technical specialist.
Practical coding background using Python.
Working knowledge of Linux operating systems and shell scripting.
Strong critical thinking and troubleshooting capabilities to resolve complex technical blockers.

Nice to Have

Familiarity with cloud-based ecosystems such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform for application deployment.
Exposure to containerization and orchestration utilities including Docker and Kubernetes.
Understanding of networking principles, protocols, and port configurations.

Base salary tiers vary by region, with Washington DC and Colorado offering $170,000 to $260,000 USD, and St. Louis offering $140,000 to $220,000 USD.
