About this role

Professionals who combine rigorous technical engineering with deep public sector mission knowledge will find an ideal fit in this position at C3 AI. Team members embed directly with government customers to help take enterprise AI applications from initial design to active production in secure and classified environments. Daily work involves scoping mission workflows, defining architecture, writing code alongside data scientists, and communicating with executive stakeholders to drive measurable operational impact.

Operating across defense, intelligence, and federal agencies, the delivery team focuses on high-visibility initiatives such as transforming military supply chains and applying generative AI to intelligence analysis. Success requires the ability to reason from first principles, inspect complex data directly, and bridge the gap between field deployments and core platform development. Individuals who thrive here possess a balanced blend of hands-on technical execution and fluency in government mission domains.

What you will do

  • Shape data flow, integration topology, identity model, and deployment architecture across on-premises, air-gapped, and government cloud infrastructure.
  • Prototype, build, and debug alongside the delivery team by reading and writing code, wiring up data pipelines, and utilizing modern coding tools.
  • Translate complex operational challenges into tractable AI, machine learning, optimization, and software problems with clearly defined requirements and success criteria.
  • Work as part of a cross-functional team of engineers and data scientists to provide technical leadership and maintain alignment around customer outcomes.
  • Run customer working sessions, brief government executive sponsors and mission owners, and write clean status updates for senior stakeholders.
  • Deploy solutions from development through UAT and into production while integrating with customer data stores and mission systems.
  • Ensure the platform is configured, secured, monitored, and accredited to meet federal security and compliance requirements.
  • Partner with sales to identify account expansion opportunities, surface new mission use cases, and support long-term customer relationships.

What you need

  • U.S. citizenship is strictly required.
  • Must hold an active or inactive U.S. Government Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
  • Demonstrate technical credibility by architecting enterprise AI and data solutions, prototyping in languages like Python or SQL, and inspecting data directly.
  • Bring depth from either a strong software or data engineering background with years of building production systems, or deep federal mission expertise paired with technical fluency.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, or a related technical or quantitative discipline.
  • Possess a demonstrated track record of building and delivering solutions from concept through production.
  • Demonstrate deep subject-matter expertise in at least one federal mission domain such as defense, intelligence, aerospace, or logistics.
  • Show experience working directly with senior technical and executive stakeholders in both high-level and technical design sessions.

Nice to have

  • Prior experience delivering to the U.S. Federal government, especially the Department of Defense or the Intelligence Community
  • CI or Full-Scope Polygraph and experience delivering software in classified, SCIF, or air-gapped environments
  • Prior U.S. military or government service, or experience as an embedded technical lead within a defense program
  • Experience deploying AI/ML platforms, generative AI, predictive maintenance, or decision-support solutions at scale
  • Familiarity with government cloud environments and accreditation processes such as FedRAMP and DoD IL
