About this role
To ensure AI systems can reliably remember, retrieve, and act on context over time, the ChatGPT Library team builds the persistence layer that enables human-AI collaboration. The person in this role will lead a group of roughly 9 to 10 engineers, owning the product roadmap and contributing directly to technical architecture and code when necessary. Operating within the Personalization organization, the team partners closely with product, design, research, model, and infrastructure groups to turn company knowledge and personal files into accessible, actionable context.

What you will do
- Lead, coach, and grow a team of approximately 9 to 10 engineers while establishing a healthy execution rhythm and accountability.
- Own the engineering roadmap for the Library product by collaborating with product and design partners to prioritize impactful problems.
- Set high standards for technical excellence, product quality, reliability, user trust, and privacy.
- Contribute hands-on technical leadership through architecture reviews, debugging, prototyping, and coding to unblock critical paths.
- Build systems that enable AI products to effectively persist, retrieve, and use personal and organizational context.
- Partner across personalization, model, research, infrastructure, enterprise, and integration teams to deliver cohesive end-to-end experiences.
- Translate emerging AI capabilities into clear product and engineering plans by navigating ambiguity and making pragmatic tradeoffs.
What you need
- Experience managing and developing high-performing engineering teams while remaining technically hands-on.
- Strong software engineering foundation with comfort contributing production code in a modern codebase.
- Demonstrated history of building and shipping user-facing products with a high quality bar in fast-moving or zero-to-one environments.
- Founder, startup, or early-stage product experience that proves an ability to create momentum with limited structure.
- Ability to reason about distributed systems, data persistence, retrieval, permissions, collaboration, and AI-native architecture implications.
- Clear communication skills across engineering, product, design, research, and executive stakeholders.

The salary range is $401K to $445K and the position includes offers for equity.
