About this role
Developing a shared workspace where human teams and AI agents can collaboratively create and edit artifacts requires solving complex product and technical challenges across rendering systems and model integrations. OpenAI needs an engineering manager to lead the ChatGPT Space team in building tools like Pages, Sheets, and Slides that evolve dynamically alongside user projects.
The person stepping into this role will guide a high-agency product engineering group bridging product, design, and research functions. Success demands deep technical judgment for zero-to-one product development combined with the ability to foster team autonomy, manage cross-functional partnerships, and maintain high standards for speed and correctness.
What you will do
- Lead, manage, and grow a product engineering team by creating clear ownership, supporting individual development, and hiring exceptional talent.
- Partner closely with product and design to shape the ChatGPT Space roadmap and translate user needs into focused, well-crafted releases.
- Set the technical direction for full-stack product systems, editing and rendering surfaces, and model-facing integrations.
- Collaborate with research teams on artifact tools, model behavior, and training needs to turn capability improvements into better products.
- Establish a high bar for editor quality, correctness, latency, and reliability while maintaining a fast operating cadence.
What you need
- Demonstrated track record of leading engineering teams, helping engineers grow, and delivering excellent products.
- Experience building products from zero to one and turning ambiguous opportunities into clear execution plans.
- Strong product judgment, design taste, and deep interest in collaborative creation workflows between teams and agents.
- Solid full-stack engineering fundamentals capable of guiding technical decisions across frontend, backend, and model-facing systems.
