Role Overview

As the senior-most engineering leader in the Burnaby office, this position serves as the visible and accountable authority for the local site. Working on-site five days a week, the Engineering Lead sets the operating cadence, champions in-office discipline, and drives the output of a roughly ten-person engineering team. Responsibilities span growth engineering, B2B and enterprise delivery, DevOps, SRE, data engineering, and production-sensitive systems including authentication and PII handling.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the Burnaby office in person, establishing operating standards and an environment for peak performance.
Cultivate a high-performance culture by recognizing top talent, offering visible responsibilities, and addressing underperformance directly and fairly.
Champion an AI-native engineering workflow where AI agents integrate into daily tasks to maximize team output.
Own delivery across growth, pricing, experimentation, conversion, monetization, and data science systems.
Support dotted-line functions such as platform, SRE, security, and B2B engineering based in the office despite reporting elsewhere.
Collaborate daily with leadership and engineering teams across Mountain View, Shanghai, and Chengdu, alongside local product and customer experience teammates.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Minimum of 8 years of building software, including 3 or more years managing engineers.
Proven startup experience with a willingness to work on-site in Burnaby five days a week.
Track record of turning around a team, balancing talent density through coaching and performance management.
Hands-on technical capability to engage in architecture debates and technical reviews.
Accountability for key business metrics such as conversion, pricing, revenue, or reliability.

Nice to Have

Background in growth engineering covering experimentation, conversion, or monetization surfaces.
Enterprise or B2B engineering experience involving customer-facing delivery, integrations, and security reviews.
Familiarity with security and compliance for PII-heavy systems like SOC 2, access control, and data governance.
Previous experience in creator tools, video technology, or the creator economy.
Experience scaling an organization or site to multiple times its original size.
