About this role

Cognition is seeking a Developer Community Manager to join the team in San Francisco on a full-time basis. This role suits a technically proficient professional with a background in engineering who wants to connect the applied AI lab with the global developer ecosystem.

Role Overview

Cognition is an applied AI lab creating end-to-end software agents, best known as the creators of Devin, the first AI software engineer. As the Developer Community Manager based in San Francisco, the person in this position acts as the primary link between the lab and the wider developer community. The role involves designing community programs from the ground up, scaling ambassador networks, and demonstrating Devin in real-world engineering workflows. It is tailored for someone who enjoys operating in a fast-moving, high-intensity startup environment where they can blend technical credibility with community building.

Key Responsibilities

Scale the developer ambassador program by recruiting, onboarding, and supporting technical advocates who champion Devin.
Plan and execute technical developer events such as hackathons, meetups, demo days, and conference activations.
Build and manage university programs, including campus ambassador networks, workshop series, and partnerships with computer science departments and student groups.
Create technical content, tutorials, demo scripts, and workshop materials to help engineers understand and adopt Devin.
Own the community feedback loop by synthesizing user commentary, surfacing product insights to the engineering team, and communicating updates back to the community.
Manage community platforms and channels to foster authentic engagement and highlight high-signal discussions.
Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and go-to-market teams to ensure community programs align with company product launches.
Track and report on program metrics including community growth, event attendance, ambassador activity, and product adoption.

Requirements

A technical background with professional coding experience or a computer science degree, enabling fluent conversations about APIs, SDKs, and developer workflows.
At least 2 years of professional experience in developer relations, community management, technical evangelism, or a related technology company role.
Demonstrated past experience in planning and executing technical events, workshops, or community programs.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills capable of translating complex technical concepts into approachable content.
A builder mentality with a preference for shipping scrappy initial versions over waiting for perfect conditions.
Comfort operating autonomously in a fast-paced environment characterized by shifting priorities and ambiguity.
A documented track record of exceptional achievements and impact in any domain.

Nice to Have

Experience building a developer community or ambassador program from scratch with measurable results.
A genuine passion for AI-powered developer tools and clear perspectives on the future of software development.
Recognition in developer communities via open-source contributions, conference talks, content creation, or community leadership.
Experience managing university programs or engaging with early-career developers.
A software engineering background combined with a desire to transition into a community-facing role.
