The Forward Deployed Engineering group at OpenAI builds production systems by connecting core platform research directly with customer implementations in the life sciences sector. This role exists to pilot high-stakes AI deployments for drug discovery and development while feeding field insights back into core product roadmaps.
Ownership of the end-to-end delivery lifecycle requires guiding 0-to-1 prototypes through minimum viable products and ultimate scale while navigating significant operational ambiguity. Ideal candidates bring extensive technical project management backgrounds combined with domain expertise in life sciences and the ability to maintain executive presence while solving complex integration challenges.
What you will do
- Formulate comprehensive technical delivery roadmaps that outline milestones, dependencies, and clear acceptance criteria for interdependent workstreams.
- Drive daily engineering execution by coordinating across forward deployed engineering units and customer teams to maintain progress and unblock roadblocks.
- Embed directly within client organizations to map workflows, shape integrations, and lead onboarding, adoption, and change management efforts.
- Collaborate closely with product and research divisions to ensure platform components align with deployment schedules and goals.
- Codify reusable solution patterns and evaluation metrics derived from field signals to enhance underlying models and products.
- Establish impact hypotheses, key performance indicators, and value cases while conducting pre- and post-deployment measurements for executive sponsors.
What you need
- Possag seven or more years of experience in customer-facing technical delivery leadership paired with specialized expertise in the life sciences industry.
- Demonstrate a proven track record of successfully guiding large, complex customer engagements where outcomes relied on rapid decision-making and artificial intelligence.
- Thrive in high-ambiguity environments by simplifying dynamic work and shifting problems from vague concepts to shipped systems.
- Display strong technical fluency to pressure-test architectures, discuss implementation details, and navigate trade-offs effectively.
- Exhibit direct experience shipping artificial intelligence or large language model systems with an understanding of production pitfalls and integration basics.
