Based in Paris, France, the Data & AI Engineer Intern role at Shift Technology is a six-month internship focused on developing and deploying production-ready artificial intelligence features. This position suits a current Master's degree student in a technical discipline who wants hands-on experience building large language model applications and agentic workflows.

Role Overview

The Data & AI Engineering team designs and maintains the platform powering Shift Technology's insurance products. As an intern, the selected candidate takes end-to-end ownership of a specific feature involving large language models and agentic workflows from initial exploration to production deployment. The work directly contributes to improving fraud detection or payment integrity models used by insurers worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with clients, product teams, and domain experts to understand business challenges.
Explore the state of the art, test approaches, and identify optimal solutions for specific use cases.
Design system solutions alongside architects and the AI research lab.
Build and integrate features within a cross-functional squad.
Evaluate and improve performance by measuring accuracy, including precision, recall, and latency.
Deploy features into production alongside forward-deployed data scientists.

Requirements

Currently enrolled as a Master's degree student in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or Big Data.
Strong technical skills in Python and Object-Oriented Programming, with exposure to C#, Java, or C++ considered a strong plus.
Deep technical curiosity and a hands-on interest in modern AI paradigms like large language models, agentic workflows, machine learning evaluation frameworks, and automation.
Strong engineering mindset focused on code quality, system performance, and software design principles.
Ability to provide a 6-month internship agreement signed by the school or university, starting around February 2027.
Fluent level in English.
