About this role

OpenRouter is hiring a Community Lead for Developer Relations to manage and grow our vibrant Discord community of over 50,000 members. This fully remote, founding community role requires the candidate to be based in the San Francisco Bay Area and suits an experienced, technically fluent individual passionate about AI builders.

Role Overview

OpenRouter sits at the center of enterprise AI adoption, providing an infrastructure layer to access and manage large language models. As the Community Lead, you will become the primary heartbeat and trusted representative of the developer network. The position centers on a digital-first approach with an 80/20 split between online management and in-person events. You will focus on scaling community initiatives through a 1:n mindset, creating automated workflows, event kits, and robust moderation structures rather than relying on one-off interactions.

Key Responsibilities

Manage and run the OpenRouter Discord server end-to-end, hosting engagement events, challenges, and giveaways.
Recruit, support, and establish non-monetary recognition programs for a dedicated team of community moderators.
Act as the continuous pulse of the company, gathering user sentiment about models, products, and the broader AI landscape.
Build and maintain automations to track community trends, signals, and feedback at scale.
Partner with the events team to design global playbooks and resources that enable regional community members to host local meetups.
Extend community energy onto Twitter/X and other digital platforms.
Channel bug reports and feedback directly into actionable product insights for the engineering and product teams.

Requirements

At least 3 years of professional experience in community management, developer community roles, or related fields.
Proven background managing large-scale Discord communities, including events and moderation structures.
Hands-on technical experience building with large language models and their APIs, with the ability to read and write example code.
Exceptional written communication skills with a natural, human voice suited for platforms like Discord, Reddit, and Twitter/X.
Experience designing and implementing contributor, ambassador, or moderator programs.
Entrepreneurial, self-directed mindset capable of executing independently with high visibility.
Required to be based in the San Francisco Bay Area or have the capability to travel regularly for events.

Nice to Have

Prior experience building custom automations or lightweight tooling for sentiment tracking and community listening.
Background in scaling in-person meetups and community events across multiple regions.
Familiarity with OpenRouter as a platform user.
Ability to create lightweight developer-focused content such as threads, clips, recaps, and memes.

Discord community management and event organization
Large language model (LLM) APIs and developer tooling
Community automation and sentiment listening
Social media engagement across Twitter/X and Reddit
Program design for contributors and moderators

Salary and Benefits

Annual base salary ranging from $200,000 to $240,000 USD.
