Role Overview

9fin is expanding its Data Science team and seeking an Applied AI Manager to lead the design and delivery of advanced machine learning and Generative AI systems. Based in London, this role involves guiding end-to-end model development, making critical architectural decisions for data-intensive applications, and serving as a visible technical leader. The successful candidate will work alongside researchers and engineers to build large-scale, AI-powered systems that replace outdated infrastructure in the global debt markets.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and delivery of complex machine learning and Generative AI systems to ensure robust and scalable business alignment.
Guide the engineering team through the complete model development lifecycle, covering experimentation, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring with an emphasis on reliability.
Drive architectural choices for data-intensive and AI-driven applications while balancing cutting-edge innovation with production readiness.
Mentor and develop engineers across multiple experience levels by sharing best practices in software engineering, cloud infrastructure, and artificial intelligence.
Collaborate cross-functional stakeholders to define roadmaps, scope ambitious projects, and balance technical goals.
Champion high coding standards, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and incident management to foster technical rigor.
Drive company-wide adoption of artificial intelligence and machine learning while influencing broader organizational strategy.

Requirements

Proven professional experience leading engineering teams within a fast-paced, high-growth setting.
Demonstrated commitment to people development, including team mentoring, performance reviews, and inclusive team building.
Strong background in software engineering paired with deep knowledge of AI and ML frameworks, modern data stacks, and Generative AI tooling.
Hands-on expertise in building and deploying production-grade machine learning and Generative AI systems, particularly within complex domains like legal or finance.
Ability to lead high-level architectural discussions while remaining capable of diving into technical details.
Familiarity with modern MLOps practices and cloud infrastructure.
Adaptable, decisive mindset suited for a collaborative startup environment focused on delivering real business impact.
