About this role
Startups often struggle to effectively deploy frontier coding tools and transform traditional software development workflows. The Applied AI Engineering team addresses this challenge by acting as trusted advisors to ensure OpenAI technology is deployed safely and effectively while gathering insights to improve underlying models.
This practitioner will partner directly with top startups to integrate Codex into their daily operations, troubleshoot technical blockers, and build custom workflows. Day-to-day work involves designing technical talks, leading workshops, and translating customer feedback into actionable insights for internal product and research teams.

What you will do
- Partner with top startups to identify where Codex can have the greatest impact on how their teams build and ship software.
- Design and lead technical talks, live demos, workshops, hackathons, and repeatable hands-on programmes that turn initial interest into sustained adoption.
- Work directly with selected customers to build Codex workflows, integrations, and automations, resolve technical blockers, and evaluate effectiveness and reliability.
- Turn successful approaches into reusable code examples, guides, and tools that help more startups succeed with Codex and OpenAI's broader platform.
- Collaborate with account teams, developer experience, and ecosystem partners to reach developers and founders, prioritise opportunities, and drive measurable customer value.
- Translate customer experiences and developer feedback into actionable insights for OpenAI's Product, Research, and Engineering teams.
What you need
- Have experience building at, founding, or working closely with early-stage startups, and understand the pace, ambiguity, and practical trade-offs involved.
- Bring strong software engineering fundamentals and enjoy building practical AI applications, integrations, and developer tools.
- Are an active user of Codex or other AI coding tools, with a thoughtful perspective on how they can improve software development.
- Are a compelling communicator who enjoys presenting, delivering live demos, and leading hands-on workshops for developers and founders.
- Have a talent for turning complex technical ideas into clear explanations, engaging examples, and reusable resources that help others succeed.
- Combine developer empathy with sound technical judgment to uncover what a team needs, troubleshoot problems, and help them adopt effective workflows.
