The Applied AI Engineering group at OpenAI works directly with engineering leaders to integrate Codex across the entire software development lifecycle, transforming how organizations plan, write, test, and ship code.
In this capacity, you will combine hands-on coding with customer leadership to guide ambitious software projects from early prototypes through secure production deployment. You will tackle complex technical decisions regarding agentic workflows, model behavior, reliability, and security while converting deployment insights into actionable feedback for internal product and research teams. Successful candidates bring a strong background in software or applied AI engineering, enjoy working directly with technical users, and thrive on driving measurable improvements in developer productivity.
What you will do
- Partner directly with engineering leaders and developers to identify high-value opportunities for Codex and create robust technical architectures.
- Design and deploy AI-powered software development workflows that improve how teams plan, test, review, and deliver code.
- Write code hands-on to build prototypes, evaluation harnesses, reference implementations, and workflow automations.
- Help customers transition from initial experiments to reliable production workflows and sustained team-wide adoption.
- Design systematic evaluation frameworks for AI coding systems using automated graders and developer feedback.
- Make sound technical choices across models, tools, developer environments, latency, cost, and operational readiness.
- Gather deployment insights to generate clear product proposals and model feedback for internal teams.
What you need
- Demonstrated track record of designing, building, and delivering software or AI systems in enterprise environments from prototype to production.
- Substantial personal contributions in code, architecture, evaluation, debugging, or production engineering.
- High proficiency in Python and familiarity with modern software development environments.
- Active user of AI coding tools with a strong point of view on improving developer productivity.
- Ability to navigate enterprise production requirements such as security, privacy, reliability, observability, and performance.
- Clear communication skills to engage effectively with hands-on engineers, security teams, and engineering leaders.
- Fluent in both English and French.
