About this role

Role Overview

The Applied AI Engineer, Agents & Automations position at Cohere is a full-time engineering role based in Toronto with remote flexibility. This position suits a skilled software professional who wants to build reliable, user-facing artificial intelligence systems and production-ready enterprise workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Build AI-powered product experiences that let users create, configure, evaluate, and improve workflows across the North platform.
Design and ship new human-AI collaboration interfaces, such as workflow builders, proactive assistants, and review flows.
Build evaluation, observability, and feedback systems to measure how well AI experiences perform in real enterprise environments.
Enhance AI reliability through thoughtful product design, prompt engineering, context construction, tool-use strategies, and feedback loops.
Convert production failures, user feedback, and task data into better product behavior, stronger evaluation suites, and modelling signals.
Collaborate closely with modelling, product, design, customer teams, and domain experts to define quality and ship measurable improvements.
Determine when a workflow requires a constrained product experience, a stronger evaluation, or deeper modelling investments.

Requirements

Experience shipping LLM-powered, agent-powered, or AI-assisted product experiences into production and improving them using real-world feedback.
Strong software engineering background with enthusiasm for working across backend systems, user-facing product, data, evaluations, and model behavior.
Ability to focus on user outcomes and system behavior rather than just model metrics.
Strong product taste with a focus on how interfaces, workflows, and models work together for user success.
Enjoyment in debugging messy real-world failures and turning insights from production, user testing, and evaluations into durable improvements.
Capability to own ambiguous problems end-to-end and work across system boundaries to deliver useful solutions.
