MaintainX is seeking a remote Applied AI Engineer based in Canada to own the generation component of Document Intelligence. This full-time engineering role suits professionals experienced in building production-ready generative AI systems and multimodal data processing.

Role Overview

As an Applied AI Engineer at MaintainX, the focus centers on managing the generation half of Document Intelligence. Responsibilities include transforming multimodal primitives like keyframes, transcripts, and optical character recognition into schema-valid entities such as standard operating procedures. The position maintains strict quality standards to ensure high speed does not compromise accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

Design and iterate recipe prompts including system, few-shot, and context assembly for every generation recipe.
Define target schemas and domain validators like procedure step-type rules and field caps for generated output.
Build generation-quality evaluation datasets and rubrics for offline and online testing using LLMX's pipeline, addressing regressions promptly.
Assemble multimodal context windows combining keyframes, transcripts, and OCR to provide optimal model call inputs.
Select appropriate models and token budgets for each recipe by balancing quality, cost, and latency.

Requirements

Strong practical GenAI craft encompassing prompt engineering, structured output, tool-use, RAG, and retrieval-context patterns.
Demonstrated eval discipline with experience building datasets and rubrics, measuring factuality and quality, and resolving regressions.
Proven track record of shipping LLM features into live production services rather than notebooks.
Comfort working with multimodal inputs including video, PDF, audio, and images converted into text or structured output.

Nice to Have

Experience with LLM observability, cost awareness, or eval platforms.
Background in document, PDF, or video understanding, optical character recognition, or retrieval systems.
Light fine-tuning experience or familiarity with the industrial and maintenance domain.
