OpenAI seeks an Applied AI Architect in Sydney to act as the primary technical partner for organizations deploying ChatGPT Enterprise, the OpenAI API, Codex, and agentic AI tools. Operating as the technical lead alongside Account Directors, the person in this role shapes artificial intelligence strategies and bridges executive discussions with hands-on technical execution.
Collaboration happens daily with engineering, product, research, and specialist delivery teams to ensure secure and scalable deployments. Candidates who thrive here bring a blend of cloud architecture foundations, customer-facing technical leadership, and practical understanding of frontier language models. Relocation assistance and a hybrid office schedule supporting three days on-site per week are provided for the Sydney location.
What you will do
- Serve as the primary technical advisor and long-term technical relationship owner for a named portfolio of existing customers and pre-sales prospects.
- Lead discovery sessions with executive and technical teams to identify and prioritize use cases tied to business outcomes.
- Develop comprehensive applied AI architectures spanning models, applications, data, security, governance, and deployment.
- Guide customers through technical evaluations, proofs of value, demonstrations, and workshops to secure confidence in production paths.
- Coordinate support from deployment engineering, implementation, training, and specialized product teams while maintaining accountability for technical outcomes.
- Share customer insights and field learnings with product, engineering, and research to improve architecture guidance and product capabilities.
What you need
- Bring significant experience in customer-facing technical roles such as solutions architecture, solutions engineering, or technical account leadership.
- Demonstrate strong software and cloud architecture foundations, including distributed systems, APIs, data integration, security, and identity.
- Possess an understanding of modern AI systems, frontier LLM models, agentic applications, model evaluation, and enterprise workflows.
- Communicate effectively with senior technical and business leaders while remaining comfortable working with hands-on engineers.
- Demonstrate the ability to prototype, explain technical tradeoffs, and work confidently with APIs, SDKs, and languages such as Python or JavaScript.
