About this role

Aircall is hiring an AI Productivity Engineer for its London office to accelerate AI adoption across the engineering organization. This role suits an experienced software professional who enjoys building practical internal developer tools and automation systems.

Role Overview

The AI Productivity Engineer will join the Engineering Productivity team to design and build production-grade AI solutions that improve how engineers work. This is not a research position or a customer-facing product role, but rather a focused opportunity to build internal tools that reduce friction, automate repetitive tasks, and embed intelligence into daily development workflows at Aircall.

Key Responsibilities

Take ownership of rapid AI adoption across the engineering organization by identifying high-friction workflow areas.
Design and build practical, production-grade AI-powered developer tooling for coding, testing, PR reviews, and debugging.
Build contextual, system-aware AI assistants utilizing internal data, codebases, and tooling.
Automate and streamline daily engineering workflows across GitLab, Jira, CI/CD, Slack, and observability systems.
Design and operate internal AI services and orchestration layers, such as MCP servers.
Own solutions end-to-end from discovery and design to building, measuring, and iterating.
Work hands-on with engineering teams to remove friction and transition tools into daily practice.
Measure success through adoption rates, overall impact, and tangible time saved for engineers.

Requirements

5+ years of experience as a software engineer, with a recent focus on generative AI systems.
Strong experience building production-grade systems rather than simple prototypes.
Hands-on expertise with large language models like OpenAI and Anthropic, including prompting, retrieval, and context injection.
Practical background in AI-powered tooling or internal platforms.
Solid backend engineering skills covering APIs, services, and integrations.
Experience working with standard developer tools including CI/CD, GitHub, GitLab, Jira, and observability platforms.
Strong product mindset with comfort operating in ambiguous problem spaces.

Nice to Have

Prior experience building developer tools, internal platforms, or Developer Experience tooling.
Experience evolving traditional tooling into AI-assisted or AI-driven workflows.
Familiarity with MCP, agent-based systems, or model orchestration concepts.
Experience integrating AI with large codebases, monorepos, or complex CI/CD environments.
Exposure to security, privacy, and trust considerations in internal AI systems.
