Technical Program Manager, AI Tooling
About this role
This role addresses the need to establish and manage the operating system for Figma's growing portfolio of Internal AI Tooling. Figma is focused on enhancing its platform to streamline workflows, accelerate iteration, and integrate AI capabilities across its design and collaboration tools. The Technical Program Manager will be central to this effort, ensuring that the emerging AI roadmap is translated into coordinated, secure, and scalable capabilities. This involves acting as the connective tissue between Product, Engineering, and numerous cross-functional partners, including Security, Legal, and Data Engineering.
The core function of this position is to bring structure to a fast-moving environment by creating lightweight planning and governance. The individual will define how internal AI initiatives move from initial intake through development, release, and operational handoff, ensuring clear ownership and measurable results at every stage. This role exists to provide the necessary organizational rigor to manage complexity while allowing teams the autonomy to execute effectively.
The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, possessing the ability to lead complex initiatives through influence rather than direct authority. They will be responsible for aligning diverse teams around shared milestones and decisions, ultimately shaping not just the delivery of features, but also the operational framework for how Figma evaluates, builds, releases, and manages its internal AI assets as the portfolio expands.
What you will do
- Translate the Product Manager's roadmap and prioritized outcomes into integrated program plans, milestones, release schedules, decision points, and clear ownership.
- Manage the execution of the Internal AI Tooling roadmap across technical teams and various business stakeholders.
- Operationalize a transparent intake and routing process so that requests have a defined problem, expected business outcome, delivery path, risk profile, and accountable owner before work commences.
- Establish and facilitate lightweight planning and execution cadences, such as program reviews, dependency reviews, decision forums, and release-readiness reviews.
- Maintain an integrated view of dependencies, risks, issues, assumptions, and decisions, driving timely resolution or escalation when work is blocked.
- Coordinate security reviews, legal and procurement milestones, data dependencies, vendor commitments, and business-system integrations to ensure workstreams are engaged appropriately.
- Ensure releases include appropriate acceptance criteria, operational ownership, support processes, runbooks, escalation paths, and feedback loops prior to handoff.
- Partner with Product and stakeholders to define measurable outcomes and provide clear reporting on delivery health, adoption readiness, operational performance, and realized impact.
What you need
- Candidates must possess at least five years of experience in technical program management or technical delivery within a cloud, SaaS, enterprise-technology, or internal-tools environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex programs involving collaboration across Product, Engineering, Security, Legal, Data, Business Systems, Operations, and business stakeholders is required.
- A proven track record of translating product roadmaps into integrated plans, milestones, dependencies, decision points, and measurable outcomes while maintaining clear ownership boundaries is necessary.
- Technical fluency with enterprise systems, APIs, integrations, data flows, platform dependencies, identity and access, and software-delivery lifecycles must be present.
- The candidate must be able to engage credibly in technical planning and tradeoff conversations, even without being an engineer.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, facilitation, and influencing skills are essential for establishing lightweight governance and creating accountability.
- The ability to establish lightweight governance and present concise decisions and risks without relying on direct authority is a key skill.
