Director, Product Design - AI & Context

Figma is seeking an experienced design leader to oversee the Context Platform Pillar, which encompasses design systems, code, MCP, CMS, and community initiatives. This team is responsible for driving the critical context that AI agents need to help users build better products.
In this capacity, the director will guide a multi-team design group through strategic challenges ranging from launching new capabilities to scaling existing ones. The work involves partnering closely with engineering, product management, research, and marketing to shape both product direction and business strategy. Candidates who possess a strong blend of people management skills, hands-on design expertise, and a clear vision for AI-driven workflows will find a natural home in this group.
What you will do
- Hire, manage, and develop a multi-team design group spanning design systems, code, MCP, CMS, and community.
- Partner with product and engineering leads to improve team processes, execution, and roadmap strategy.
- Develop a clear perspective on product areas and successfully advocate for it across the organization.
- Lead critique, sprint, and design review practices across the pillar.
- Advance personal skills at people management in a supportive and growth-oriented environment.
- Operate hands-on across both people management and strategy and execution.
What you need
- Bring 5+ years of design management experience, including managing managers and leading teams through ambiguity and change.
- Demonstrate deep understanding of the latest artificial intelligence developments, modern tooling, and component-driven design practices.
- Possess strong hands-on expertise with Figma's tools to effectively mentor and guide design teams.
- Show a proven track record of partnering cross-functionally to solve complex design challenges and drive meaningful outcomes.
- Exhibit strong strategic thinking and communication skills through influencing teams and adopting a proactive approach.

Where can this role be located?
This is a full time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the United States. If hired you will be required to attend in person onboarding.
What is the compensation range for this position?
The annual base salary range is $290,000 to $376,000 USD. Figma also offers equity to employees, along with a competitive package of additional benefits.
