About this role

Role Overview

Lambda is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Compute pillar to shape the technical vision for next-generation GPU and CPU host instance lifecycles and control planes. This position is based out of the Bellevue office with a remote flexibility option, requiring a presence in the office four days a week with Tuesday designated as work from home. This role is a great fit for senior technical professionals looking to bridge high-level distributed systems with low-level semiconductor architecture for large-scale heterogeneous compute platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement a reliable, highly available GPU and CPU host and instance lifecycle control plane.
Direct technical decisions regarding semiconductor architecture, BIOS and firmware settings, system boot methods, and DPU use to enhance performance.
Lead the design of security models for multi-tenant compute platforms.
Provide hands-on technical leadership and mentorship to senior engineers across multiple teams.
Partner with data center and product groups to turn customer needs into scalable infrastructure capabilities.
Help customers convert unclear technical needs into actionable engineering deliverables.
Establish engineering standards and direct design reviews for mission-critical cloud software.

Requirements

Ten or more years of professional experience building compute control plane distributed systems for deploying and managing heterogeneous compute platforms in data centers.
Expertise in distributed systems and durable execution models used in cloud-service provisioning.
Foundational knowledge of software-defined networking for secure, multi-tenant distributed systems.
Demonstrated success in leading large-scale semiconductor hardware enablement and deployment projects.
Experience deploying brand new data centers into a global compute platform.
Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Rust, Python, or Go.

Nice to Have

Familiarity with Nvidia AI Factory architectural components, including GPU hosts, CPU hosts, switches, and SuperNICs.
Knowledge of Nvidia AI Factory software tools like CUDA, DOCA, and DOCA SNAP.
Understanding of Linux kernel internals, device drivers, virtualization tools like KVM and QEMU, and kernel bypass technologies such as DPDK, SPDK, and SR-IOV.
Background working with Cloud Service Provider Kubernetes offerings.
Experience dealing with high-performance networking like RoCE and InfiniBand, along with storage protocols like NVMe-oF.
