Role Overview

Lambda is seeking a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer for the Cloud Foundations department. This position requires regular presence in the San Francisco office location four days per week, with Tuesday designated as the work-from-home day. The newly established team manages the account, access, and network foundation that supports Lambda's AI cloud infrastructure. The engineer will collaborate closely with Security, GRC, IT, and consumer engineering teams to turn internal policies into operational controls and paved paths, allowing hundreds of engineers to safely self-serve rather than file manual requests.

Key Responsibilities

Own and evolve the infrastructure-as-code execution platform using Terraform and Atlantis to handle change proposals, reviews, and applications.
Design and operate cloud accounts, access, and IAM structures, covering organizational hierarchy, provisioning, and permission models.
Manage the cloud network foundation, including VPCs, Transit Gateway, DNS, and baseline patterns for other teams.
Drive AWS cloud governance through tagging standards, compliance guardrails, cost visibility, and accountability.
Implement least-privilege access and compliance automation to replace manual provisioning with self-service mechanisms.
Help establish the operational scope, priorities, and service boundaries for this new team.
Participate in an on-call rotation while maintaining well-documented, reliable, and observable systems.

Requirements

Six or more years of professional experience in cloud infrastructure, cloud platform engineering, cloud security, or a closely related discipline.
Deep expertise in managing AWS at scale, including multi-account organizations, IAM permission boundaries, SCPs, and resource organization.
Strong foundation in infrastructure-as-code principles using Terraform, modules, state management, and automated plan/apply workflows.
Solid understanding of cloud networking fundamentals, covering VPC design, transit connectivity, hybrid setups, DNS, and edge configurations.
Ability to write automation and tooling in Go or Python, treating internal systems as products with real quality standards.
Experience utilizing AI tools responsibly by reviewing, verifying, and owning generated outputs.
Comfort with ambiguity, problem clarification, and building scalable solutions for multiple teams.

Nice to Have

Experience building agentic workflows to automate infrastructure operations or governance tasks.
Practical background implementing controls for compliance programs such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001.
Experience with cloud cost management and FinOps practices.
Hands-on exposure to Azure, GCP, or OCI in addition to AWS.
