About this role
Midi Health needs a technical leader to establish robust architectures and safety standards for AI systems deployed across clinical workflows and patient experiences. The incoming engineer will define how the organization builds with AI, owning everything from retrieval and orchestration to evaluation practices and engineering standards.
Operating in a hybrid structure with required office days in San Francisco or Palo Alto, the person in this position will partner closely with clinical and executive leadership to shape the product roadmap. Ideal candidates bring extensive technical depth in production AI systems, a hands-on coding background in Python, and a collaborative mindset focused on mentorship and responsible healthcare innovation.
What you will do
- Lead technical strategy for AI and LLM systems across all product surfaces at Midi Health.
- Architect reliable production systems for retrieval, orchestration, agents, and evaluation.
- Establish organizational standards for AI safety, observability, evaluation, and responsible rollout in healthcare.
- Partner with clinical, product, and executive leaders to shape the broader AI roadmap.
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers to elevate the overall AI literacy and capability of the organization.
- Evaluate emerging models, techniques, and tools to integrate the most appropriate solutions into the team workflow.
What you need
- Bring over ten years of professional software engineering experience with a strong focus on production AI and LLM systems.
- Maintain hands-on coding capabilities and write production Python code regularly.
- Demonstrate expertise in designing scalable AI systems that account for latency, cost, retrieval, and agents.
- Act as an authority in AI engineering whose technical judgment is trusted across teams and leadership.
- Possess a proven background in mentoring engineers and growing them into capable AI builders.
- Communicate effectively with product, clinical, and executive stakeholders regarding risk and safety tradeoffs.

- Track record of shipping agentic or large-scale RAG systems in production
