Role Overview

Coder is seeking a remote Staff Software Engineer for their Agentic Engineering team in the United Kingdom to shape the systems behind agentic development experiences. This full-time position suits an experienced software professional ready to combine hands-on technical execution with architectural leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Define technical direction across agent harnesses, workflows, and integrations at Coder.
Create and build production systems using Go, along with React and TypeScript tasks when necessary.
Advance agent execution, tool utilization, streaming, context management, and long-running workflows.
Broaden the provider-agnostic framework as models and capabilities evolve.
Guide intricate projects from early ambiguity through to full production deployment.
Elevate engineering standards via code reviews, design evaluations, and technical mentorship.
Collaborate closely with Product and Design teams to craft intuitive agent experiences.
Enhance the operability, performance, and reliability of agentic systems.

Requirements

Extensive background in designing and running production software systems.
Solid hands-on proficiency in Go.
Practical experience utilizing React and TypeScript.
Direct involvement building systems centered around LLMs and agentic workflows.
Familiarity with model APIs, agent loops, context management, or tool calling.
Comprehensive knowledge of distributed systems.
Working knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS).
A proven history of establishing technical direction without formal authority.
Strong architectural judgment paired with comfort navigating ambiguous situations.
A collaborative mindset that elevates surrounding engineers.

Nice to Have

Background in developing coding agents, cloud development environments, or developer tools.
Familiarity with multi-agent systems or specific agent tools.
Experience designing abstractions across multiple model providers.
In-depth expertise with Kubernetes, Docker, Linux, and AWS.
History of open-source contributions or direct customer collaboration.
