Role Overview

Breeze is hiring a Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Risk to report directly to the CTO in the Singapore office. In this position, the engineer acts as the senior technical voice for machine learning on the risk team, collaborating closely with software and data engineering departments. The role focuses on owning how risk models are built, shipped, and maintained to support global commerce infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Design and build machine learning infrastructure for payment risk detection using Databricks as the core platform.
Establish structure within the machine learning environment, covering feature pipelines, versioning, job orchestration, and monitoring.
Design and productionize comprehensive models, managing training pipelines, retraining cadences, drift monitoring, and deployments.
Develop reliable, automated, and reproducible machine learning workflows across the entire model lifecycle.
Establish technical standards and architectural direction for how machine learning is built and shipped on the risk team.
Maintain operational health for production models, handling low-latency inference, ongoing monitoring, and incident response.

Requirements

Eight or more years of experience in machine learning engineering with real production ownership.
Proven track record building risk or fraud-adjacent machine learning systems, ideally within fintech or payments.
Experience working with real-time payment-risk systems, including low-latency model inference, monitoring, and incident response.
Strong collaboration skills bridging engineering and data engineering teams.
Experience operating as a senior technical voice and cross-functional technical leader on a small team.
Ability to operate effectively in fast-moving environments without established playbooks.

Nice to Have

Familiarity with payments-specific risk signals like chargebacks, dispute networks, and tokenization context.
Experience establishing machine learning platform standards and operating models inside a growing organization.
Background working at an early-stage or high-growth startup.
