Role Overview

The Device Infrastructure Services team at 1Password owns the complete lifecycle of hardware and operating systems. As the Staff Engineer, you will set and execute the roadmap for transforming device management into a DevOps and AI-driven model. Rather than stepping back after handing off plans, you will build alongside the team, mentor engineers, and elevate technical capabilities. You will manage the tooling and standards that keep approximately 2,000 endpoints secure, compliant, and properly configured.

Key Responsibilities

Own the technical direction of Device Infrastructure Services and fleet compliance standards.
Drive a DevOps operating model featuring config-as-code, version control, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines.
Lead the adoption of responsible agentic AI across the device team by establishing autonomous guardrails.
Act as the final escalation point for high-severity endpoint incidents involving macOS and Windows hardware.
Partner with IT, Security, and product teams to deliver custom solutions and pilot new tooling.
Serve as Customer Zero by stress-testing internal products on company fleets before customer release.

Requirements

7+ years of IT and enterprise endpoint management experience, with at least 2 years at a senior or staff IC level.
Proven background in building and managing endpoints using GitOps practices.
Broad knowledge of enterprise endpoint management and deep operating system-level experience.
Practical experience using AI tools to accelerate IT operations while understanding associated risks.
Demonstrated ability to define and drive technical roadmaps balancing vision and execution.
Strong scripting and Infrastructure as Code skills, including Bash, Python, and Terraform.
Deep working knowledge of endpoint security fundamentals like encryption, vulnerability management, EDR, and compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001.
Experience leading through change, collaborating effectively, and mentoring engineers.

Salary and Benefits

For USA-based roles, the annual base salary ranges from $143,000 USD to $207,000 USD. For Canada-based roles, the annual base salary ranges from $122,000 CAD to $177,000 CAD. Additional compensation includes an equity grant, incentive programs, and generous paid time off.
