Role Overview

Sarvam AI is looking for a Staff Engineer to take complete end-to-end ownership of the core system powering voice agents and campaigns. Operating in Bengaluru, this full-time role focuses on scaling a platform that currently handles over 50 million minutes of conversations every month. The position centers purely on technical leadership and system architecture without people management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop the end-to-end backend for agent, campaign, and user management utilizing Python and FastAPI.
Implement workflow orchestration using Temporal to manage complex, long-running, and stateful operations.
Ensure high performance, reliability, and sub-second latency service level objectives for a multi-tenant SaaS platform.
Establish comprehensive observability practices including logging, metrics, and tracing for rapid production debugging.
Build robust integration testing infrastructure to support fast deployment cycles without impacting customer-facing systems.
Partner closely with the frontend team using Next.js to deliver a seamless user experience.
Drive a design-first and documentation-first engineering culture by writing RFCs and recording architectural decisions.

Requirements

Possess 5 to 10 years of professional experience building production backend systems with deep expertise in Python, FastAPI, or Golang.
Demonstrate a proven track record of full-stack system ownership, including end-to-end design, architectural trade-offs, and production operations.
Bring hands-on experience with workflow orchestration at scale, preferably utilizing Temporal.
Show direct experience building and operating multi-tenant, low-latency, and resilient distributed systems under heavy real-world load.
Maintain strong foundational knowledge of PostgreSQL and Redis, covering schema design, query performance tuning, and caching strategies.
Exhibit sound technical judgment regarding when to build versus buy, optimize versus ship, and abstract versus inline.

Nice to Have

Prior experience building software products on top of large language models or other AI and ML systems.
Background knowledge in telephony, VoIP, or SIP infrastructure.
Previous tenure at an early-stage or growth-stage startup with a high comfort level for ambiguity and speed.
