Backblaze is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for Application Security to enhance software safety for cloud storage and backup systems across Latin America. Role Overview

The Senior Software Engineer for Application Security focuses on improving safety across the software that powers Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage and Computer Backup. The main goal is embedding security directly into product usage, data storage, and customer features. This is a hands-on position requiring software development knowledge, application security experience, and the use of the latest artificial intelligence tools for both development and security workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Build new software security features and maintain existing ones to meet evolving security needs.
Develop new software components and security automation tooling.
Perform code reviews and security assessments on internal and customer-facing applications.
Collaborate closely with engineers to remediate security vulnerabilities using artificial intelligence tools.
Support the bug bounty program, handle vulnerability reports, and investigate newly reported flaws.
Provide engineering guidance based on known security vulnerabilities discovered in existing applications.

Requirements

Background in application development and application security knowledge.
Experience using AI tools and software, including AI coding tools like ChatGPT, Claude Code, Gemini, Cursor, or similar frameworks.
Understanding of cryptography, secure authentication, cloud environments, and cloud security.
Familiarity with web technologies such as HTTP and REST APIs, along with web applications, cloud systems, and Linux environments.
Knowledge of core web security, common web security flaws, coding agents, and the OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities.
Experience utilizing security testing tools including vulnerability scanners, SAST and DAST scanners, and fuzzing tools.
Familiarity with large software stacks running across multiple servers, including Apache Tomcat, JavaServer Pages (JSP), and Node or JavaScript features.

Skills and Tools

Programming and web languages including Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, Java, Go, C, and C++.
Security tools like SAST, DAST, fuzzers, and vulnerability scanners.
AI frameworks, coding agents, and AI developer tools.
Web protocols including HTTP and REST APIs.
Linux environments and cloud systems.
