About this role

Managing the site electrical safety program, leading arc-flash hazard analysis, and auditing electrical workers to ensure compliance with standards form the core daily routine. The environmental health and safety team builds and expands large-scale AI infrastructure and supercomputing facilities, requiring rigorous personnel protection around high-density critical power systems. The person in this role will own electrical safety controls, establish lockout/tagout procedures, validate failover sequences, and partner with design and construction teams during new builds.

Created to enable the safe and rapid scaling of compute capacity, the position suits a professional with a background in critical facility operations, data center electrical architectures, and NFPA 70E compliance. Candidates who thrive here are methodical problem-solvers capable of assessing field issues quickly while collaborating closely with contractors, engineers, and technicians to maintain high standards of safety.

What you will do

  • Manage the site electrical safety program in accordance with NFPA 70E standards, covering shock protection, arc-flash protection, and energized work permits.
  • Establish and maintain lockout/tagout procedures, switching orders, and live-dead-live verification practices for power infrastructure components like UPS units, switchgear, and generators.
  • Lead arc-flash hazard analysis and incident energy studies while defining personal protective equipment categories and approach boundaries for AC and DC systems.
  • Qualify, train, and audit electrical workers as NFPA 70E qualified persons across operations, maintenance, and contractor teams.
  • Review and approve energized work, electrical switching, and commissioning procedures, maintaining the authority to stop work when safety requirements are not met.
  • Validate failover procedures for automatic transfer switches, generators, and uninterruptible power supplies during planned and unplanned transfers.
  • Investigate electrical incidents, near misses, and shock events to drive root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.

What you need

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, electrical engineering technology, or a related engineering field.
  • Bring at least 5 years of professional experience working in electrical power systems, electrical safety, or critical-facility electrical operations.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of data center electrical system architecture and NFPA 70E electrical safety work practices.
  • Possess knowledge of hazards associated with uninterruptible power supplies, power distribution units, switchgear, generators, and energy storage systems.
  • Meet U.S. Government export regulation requirements under ITAR as a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligible individual.

Nice to have

  • Direct ownership or administration of an NFPA 70E electrical safety program in an industrial, utility, or mission-critical environment
  • NFPA 70E related certifications such as CESCP or CESW
  • Professional Engineer license
  • Certified Safety Professional or equivalent EHS credential
  • Experience with arc-flash studies and short-circuit analysis using ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or EasyPower
