Role Overview

SpaceX operates an AI security group focused on building automation to counter adversarial threats rapidly. The engineer joining this team will work on systems that automate threat detection, identify vulnerabilities, and maintain robust security postures across infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Build security-focused agents for Starshield to handle automated network and system defense.
Utilize artificial intelligence to discover and remediate security flaws within infrastructure.
Guide and test artificial intelligence integrations across Starshield systems.
Discover opportunities where automation and artificial intelligence can improve program security.
Support existing production platforms through direct implementation and cross-team recommendations.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in computer science or a related STEM field, or two plus years of professional experience in security software development without a degree.
Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, C++, or Golang.
Ability to work extended hours and weekends when necessary.
Capacity to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
Meet U.S. government export regulation compliance requirements.

Nice to Have

Background in security engineering.
Experience building full-stack production software including backends, data models, and web frontends.
Experience taking software from prototyping to production using Kubernetes, CI pipelines, and monitoring tools.
Experience designing long-running autonomous agents.
Experience applying machine learning to classification and decision problems.
Knowledge of identity, cryptography, network security, and operating system security.
Active Top Secret, Top Secret SCI, or DOE Level Q clearance.

Salary and Benefits

Base salary range for Level 1 is $130,000 to $160,000.
Base salary range for Level 2 is $150,000 to $195,000.
Active clearance holders receive a 10 percent differential up to $20,000 annually after briefing into a classified program.
Eligibility for long-term incentives including stock or cash awards, discretionary bonuses, and a discounted Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
