About this role

Role Overview

impact.com is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join the Programmatic Experience Group based in New York City. This role suits an experienced machine learning professional who can design, deploy, and maintain advanced algorithms that optimize yield, pricing, and inventory allocation at scale. Operating with high autonomy, the successful candidate works at the intersection of data science, platform engineering, and marketplace economics.

Key Responsibilities

Yield Optimization & Pricing Models: Design and deploy machine learning models that manage auction pricing, bid shading, floor prices, and overall yield across programmatic inventory.
Inventory Allocation & Supply Optimization: Own inventory routing, pacing, and matching logic to connect supply with demand effectively while forecasting inventory availability and clearing prices.
Data Architecture & Feature Engineering: Build robust data infrastructure, streaming event pipelines, and feature stores using auction logs, bid streams, and contextual attributes.
Real-Time Inference & Production ML: Deploy models to production real-time inference environments, taking ownership of latency, system health, monitoring, and model versioning.
Experimentation & Performance Measurement: Design A/B and holdout tests to measure causal impacts on yield, fill rates, and partner revenue in live auction environments.
Self-Learning Systems: Research and implement adaptive components, such as contextual bandits and feedback mechanisms, to reduce reliance on manual overrides.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with product and engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable modeling approaches.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in data science, machine learning engineering, or quantitative research.
At least 2 years of direct experience building and deploying machine learning models within programmatic advertising, ad tech, marketplace optimization, or real-time bidding domains.
Solid understanding of programmatic auction mechanics, including RTB, header bidding, deal types, and floor pricing.
Proven ability to independently take models from prototype to production, managing real-time inference, monitoring, and retraining pipelines.
Strong technical proficiency in Python and SQL, alongside experience with machine learning libraries and large-scale streaming or batch frameworks.
Strong grasp of causal inference and experiment design in online environments with delayed feedback.
Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or Economics.

Nice to Have

Direct experience with SSP, DSP, or exchange-side yield optimization and deal matching algorithms.
Familiarity with auction theory and reserve pricing.
Experience applying contextual bandits, multi-armed bandits, or reinforcement learning to real-time decisioning.
Knowledge of online learning and adaptive algorithms for non-stationary data distributions.
