Role Overview
As a Quality Assurance Engineer in the Finance Invoicing Squad at impact.com in Cape Town, you will treat software architecture as a dynamic system and align your testing strategies with critical financial outcomes. This role suits a detail-oriented professional with high adaptability and numerical logic who wants to build automated and manual testing structures that scale seamlessly.
Key Responsibilities
Design, configure, and scale a modular automated regression pack using Playwright to validate complex end-to-end user billing journeys, invoices, and payment routing flows.
Ensure daily test suites run smoothly, debugging test failures using execution traces and artifacts to isolate backend root causes.
Review and action pull requests within the QA repository to maintain thorough documentation and system continuity.
Utilize cloud testing platforms to perform targeted manual and visual mobile web audits across diverse device profiles.
Leverage LLM-based tooling and coding assistants to accelerate test authoring, generate synthetic data, and triage log signals while applying a verify-first mental model.
Review product designs and technical requirements throughout the SDLC to ensure correctness and proactively recommend architectural corrections.
Analyze ambiguous user stories and ledger requirements to break down complex architectures into explicit functional, integration, and regression test cases.
Apply advanced SQL queries to review application and batch logs, performing deep schema validation and database integrity checks.
Stress-test complex financial calculations, tax documentation pipelines, transaction totals, rounding logic, and multi-regional VAT requirements.
Validate RESTful APIs, backend endpoints, payload contracts, and authorization protocols.
Intercept, analyze, and mock internal and third-party event-driven webhooks and API retry mechanisms.
Run morning system health routines to verify transaction metrics, audit APM dashboards, and track leading indicators.
Proactively identify, track, and report failed, delayed, or missing job executions across core services like finance-app and payments-app.
Translate complex engineering defects, API failures, and automated test findings into clear business context for product squads and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
Hands-on professional experience creating, running, configuring, and scaling web automation scripts utilizing the Playwright framework.
Strong relational database profiling skills, with the ability to troubleshoot platform data issues and write complex queries, joins, and aggregates.
Proven experience developing, testing, or verifying RESTful APIs, inspecting HTTP response codes, and mapping validation payloads.
Deep proficiency in manual testing methodologies, requirements analysis, exploratory testing, web inspection, and analytical precision.
Agility and autonomy to process feedback rapidly, pivot based on shifting product needs, and balance speed with quality.
Demonstrated proficiency in integrating AI tools like Cursor or Copilot into the daily QA lifecycle.
Tertiary qualification or equivalent practical hands-on experience in software quality assurance, computer programming, or systems engineering.
Nice to Have
Preferred certifications include ISTQB/ISEB QA Certification, Partner PXA Certification, or technical certifications in Java, Spring, or Cloud infrastructure.
Hands-on experience with multi-cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, Azure, or cloud-based device testing suites like Sauce Labs.
Familiarity with transactional pipelines, Point-of-Sale systems, ledger logic, database tracking, or financial data consistency including VAT and regional tax rules.
Familiarity with alternative testing frameworks like Selenium, Jasmine, or Cucumber.
