About this role

Complex billing operations and multi-model revenue streams create friction and potential for error during rapid scale, requiring a senior financial operator to stabilize and automate the order-to-cash lifecycle. SpaceX needs a Senior Accountant for AI Operations in Palo Alto, California, to serve as the operational backbone for billing and revenue management across subscription, usage-based, and custom enterprise contracts.

Working hands-on within the finance organization, this professional oversees invoicing, collections, and cash application while partnering with sales, legal, engineering, and revenue accounting. Success in the role requires a talent for reimagining manual workflows, driving down cycle times, and establishing scalable automation for complex financial systems.

What you will do

  • Ensure invoicing accuracy, proper tax treatment, and strict compliance with contractual billing terms and ASC 606 revenue recognition standards.
  • Reconcile bookings data to maintain alignment between customer relationship management tools, billing platforms, and the general ledger.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators including days sales outstanding, billing accuracy, aging analysis, and revenue leakage metrics.
  • Drive system optimization and process automation to eliminate manual touchpoints and support SOX compliance readiness.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of billing and order management professionals while acting as a subject matter expert for the technology stack.
  • Represent the billing function in cross-functional projects covering new product launches, pricing model updates, and system migrations.

What you need

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or another relevant discipline.
  • Bring at least 4 years of accounting experience in billing operations, order management, accounts receivable, or order-to-cash functions.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of ASC 606 revenue recognition principles and international tax compliance.
  • Possess hands-on experience managing multiple billing models simultaneously within complex, multi-system environments.
  • Show a strong motivation for process improvement, automation, and building scalable workflows.
  • Confirm eligibility to comply with U.S. Government export regulations under ITAR requirements.
  • Commit to working onsite full-time in Palo Alto, California, with willingness to work overtime or weekends as needed.
