About this role

The Marketing Enablement and Technology team builds the systems, data pipelines, and platforms that power how Instacart markets, measures, and grows. This group operates at the intersection of marketing, product, and engineering, maintaining the infrastructure behind organic search visibility, campaign feeds, audience targeting, event pipelines, and quality assurance automation.

This software engineering role focuses on two key growth surfaces: technical search visibility and customer relationship management enablement. The engineer ships full-stack features to enhance search engine and AI answer engine visibility across millions of web pages while also developing componentized email systems and execution tooling for lifecycle campaigns. Someone who thrives as a full-stack generalist, enjoys moving between organic-traffic engineering and CRM tooling, and possesses a strong product mindset will succeed in this environment.

What you will do

  • Design, build, and ship full-stack features that improve search engine visibility and organic traffic.
  • Develop and evolve a modular React email component library that compiles to secure, client-safe HTML.
  • Build data pipelines for search engine optimization and answer engine optimization ingestion and transformation.
  • Execute dynamic lifecycle campaigns across email, push, and in-app channels using structured blocks and templating languages.
  • Construct internal tooling and automation that reduces setup and quality assurance time across both growth surfaces.
  • Troubleshoot rendering and logic issues across devices while leading triage and root-cause analysis.

What you need

  • Bring three to five years of software engineering experience with proficiency in React, TypeScript, Ruby, Python, PostgreSQL, and SQL.
  • Demonstrate the ability to build and launch complete full-stack features independently from development to production rollout.
  • Apply hands-on experience using React and Next.js to componentize user interfaces and email templates.
  • Possess expertise in HTML, CSS, and responsive email development with a focus on rendering fidelity and accessibility.
  • Design distributed systems and data pipelines with exposure to tools like Airflow or dbt.
  • Build and test REST API integrations and webhooks while maintaining secure and privacy-compliant data handling.

Nice to have

  • Experience with SEO/AEO initiatives, structured data, and search engine crawling and indexing
  • Familiarity with templating languages like Liquid or AMPscript and ESP platforms such as Braze
  • Experience with QA tools for email testing and link validation
  • Testing experience with Jest, React Testing Library, and Cypress or Playwright
  • Experience building design systems or shared component libraries for marketing surfaces

Benefits

  • New hire equity grant
  • Annual equity refresh grants
