The App Infra team within the Consumer & Business group at Coinbase is executing the most significant client platform shift in company history by replacing the React Native application with native Swift and Kotlin builds for millions of customers. Engineering leadership needs a senior technical architect to shape this native mobile future, owning outcomes across thirty product teams while scaling AI-driven agentic translation.
Daily responsibilities involve designing AI-assisted migration approaches, establishing reusable native frameworks in Swift and Kotlin, and partnering closely with cross-functional leadership to navigate the dual-app transition period. Ideal candidates bring deep expertise in mobile performance optimization, a proven history of executing large-scale rewrites, and hands-on experience designing generative AI workflows for software engineering.
What you will do
- Define the technical strategy required to successfully transition the consumer application to native Swift and Kotlin builds.
- Lead the AI-assisted migration approach by designing reusable automation paradigms such as agent swarms and automated dual-repo synchronization.
- Architect a paved-road native framework that enables single mobile contributors to work productively across both iOS and Android codebases.
- Drive organizational readiness as a trusted cross-functional partner with product, design, and engineering leadership to resolve blockers.
- Mentor L5-L6 engineers and develop the technical leadership pipeline for native mobile across the organization.
- Foster connection and support throughout the entire mobile community by defining best practices and mentoring team members.
What you need
- Bring twelve or more years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in either iOS or Android native mobile development and working proficiency in the other platform.
- Demonstrate a track record of owning outcomes spanning multiple teams that drive business impact through large-scale platform migrations.
- Possess deep mobile performance expertise across iOS and Android, including cold start optimization, frame stability, and scroll jank elimination.
- Exhibit proven influence without authority at senior levels to change technical direction across teams and secure leadership alignment on ambiguous decisions.
- Show experience designing AI-native engineering workflows adopted across teams, including LLM-driven code generation and agent-based automation.
- Apply generative AI responsibly while maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs.
