Role Overview

As a Senior Staff Software Engineer on the Platform AI team based in Vancouver, the individual drives architecture and technical direction for services bringing AI research into production. This position operates through influence across the organization rather than through direct reporting authority. The role partners with AI researchers, product managers, and other Staff Engineers to build secure, scalable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Drive technical direction and architecture for ML and LLM systems across multiple AI platform teams
Design secure, scalable, fault-tolerant AI and ML solutions utilizing AWS Serverless technology
Evaluate and prototype new AI technologies including LLM frameworks, model providers, and agentic tooling
Serve as the primary contact for architecture problems and guide department-wide discussions
Mentor Staff Software Engineers and Applied Scientists through code reviews and design partnerships
Collaborate with product teams to translate multi-quarter AI strategy into execution roadmaps
Build and scale search and retrieval systems involving OpenSearch and semantic or vector search
Lead teams through ambiguous situations and undefined problems to delivery

Requirements

10 to 15 plus years of professional experience developing and owning high-scale, secure cloud applications
Demonstrated track record operating at a Staff level across multiple teams
Proficiency in Python and data science libraries and frameworks including pandas, NumPy, and scikit-learn
Experience with infrastructure-as-code practices in AWS such as CDK, Terraform, or CloudFormation
Hands-on experience with LLMs covering prompt engineering, fine-tuning, evaluation, and RAG-based functionality
Experience with search technologies including OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, semantic search, and vector embeddings
Experience managing the full AI-based solution lifecycle from prototype to production
Demonstrated mentorship experience working with senior and staff-level engineers

Nice to Have

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, or a related field
