About this role

Role Overview

Mapbox is looking for a Senior or Staff Software Development Engineer to join the EV Platform team at Mapbox Japan. This full-time, remote position suits an experienced backend engineer who wants to own the data infrastructure powering electric vehicle navigation products globally.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement scalable data pipelines and backend services following best practices for deployment, resilience, and observability.
Integrate with new charge point operators globally to expand EV charging coverage and unify disparate data into a single authoritative dataset.
Build and scale data ingestion pipelines while designing validation and quality systems for live availability and station attributes.
Develop internal tooling and dashboards to monitor data health and surface necessary data corrections.
Run experiments to evaluate data quality, accuracy, and coverage while collaborating with product owners and internal downstream teams.
Handle end-to-end feature implementations, code and design document reviews, feature releases, and on-call rotations.

Requirements

Three or more years of professional experience using Rust for production backend services.
Experience building highly available backend services and data pipelines in container-based AWS environments utilizing Docker, ECS, Fargate, or Kubernetes.
Hands-on experience in service monitoring, incident triage, continuous product improvement, automated test implementation, and distributed systems.
Knowledge of data engineering concepts including pipeline design, data quality validation, large-scale data processing, fault-tolerance, consistency, and service discovery.
Strong collaboration skills with an enthusiasm for continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and effective communication in English.

Nice to Have

Experience utilizing Argo and Datadog.
