About this role

Role Overview

Lambda is hiring a full-time Senior Software Engineer for Infrastructure Storage to design and implement next-generation on-premise storage solutions. Based out of the San Francisco office with a flexible hybrid schedule, this position suits an experienced developer with a strong background in distributed systems and storage protocols.

Key Responsibilities

Build, design, and maintain storage system software with an emphasis on high performance, scalability, and reliability.
Optimize and implement storage protocol APIs supporting object, block, and file access types.
Create distributed systems to manage and orchestrate storage resources over multiple redundant arrays and solutions.
Partner with system and hardware architects to combine software with storage options like GPU-direct storage and NVMe.
Debug and resolve challenging technical problems inside a production data center environment.
Handle the complete software development lifecycle, moving from initial requirements and design to final deployment and maintenance.

Requirements

Holds a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
Brings five or more years of professional software development experience focused on storage systems.
Demonstrates proven background in distributed systems programming, covering concepts like data consistency, load balancing, consensus algorithms, fault tolerance, and data durability.
Possesses strong coding abilities in languages such as Python, C++, C, or Go.
Understands storage protocols deeply, including object protocols like S3 and Swift, block protocols like iSCSI and Fibre Channel, and file protocols like NFS, SMB, and Lustre.
Possesses familiarity with Linux kernel internals and system-level programming.
Has working knowledge of container platforms like Kubernetes and Docker running production workloads.
Understands QA practices and CI/CD for distributed development environments.

Nice to Have

Background working with AI and machine learning workloads along with their specific storage demands.
Familiarity with high-speed interconnects and data center networking such as RoCE and InfiniBand.
Experience tuning and optimizing the performance of storage systems.
Exposure to hardware acceleration tools, specifically DPUs and GPUs.
