Role Overview

Axon is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the R&D team in Bucharest on a hybrid schedule. Employees work onsite from the Bucharest office between Tuesday and Friday, with the option to work remotely on Mondays. Operating within an AI-first engineering ecosystem, this professional will take charge of architectural decisions, guide development teams, and build reliable, high-performance cloud services that support the company mission to protect life.

Key Responsibilities

Lead engineering architecture design reviews using AI-driven insights and system modeling.
Set high technical standards through code reviews and evaluation of AI-generated patterns.
Mentor fellow engineers on scalable system design and AI-first development workflows.
Drive the adoption of AI-assisted development tools across the broader engineering organization.
Partner with Product, Design, and Engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.
Enhance engineering processes by embedding automation and intelligent workflows into daily execution.
Build mission-critical backend services that maintain strict standards for availability and low latency.
Leverage AI systems to optimize operational efficiency, observability, and system performance.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 6 years of professional software development experience.
Proven background in designing and delivering highly available, scalable cloud-based systems.
Backend service experience in multiple managed languages such as Java, Scala, Go, or C#.
Practical experience working with SQL or NoSQL data stores.
Familiarity with evaluating and integrating AI-assisted development tools into engineering pipelines.
Strong conceptual grasp of how artificial intelligence improves developer productivity, system design, and operational metrics.
