Role Overview

The desktop application from Read AI currently captures audio and provides transcripts, but the goal is to evolve it into a unified ecosystem where users can prepare, capture, and review meetings in one place. Built using Rust, Tauri, and a React frontend, the software deals with complex operating system boundaries, including audio capture, on-device processing, and device integrations. The right professional will collaborate closely with product and design teams to create desktop capabilities that web and mobile platforms cannot achieve alone.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver features that unite meeting preparation, capture, and review into a smooth, cohesive user workflow.
Implement cross-app user interface unification so the software maintains a consistent feel across all environments.
Expand native meeting capture capabilities uniformly across Windows and macOS platforms.
Research, test, and prototype on-device audio processing and local transcription methods.
Integrate external hardware peripherals and collect operating system signals to improve overall AI functionality.
Maintain high codebase standards by writing performant Rust code, establishing team patterns, and managing release health including signing, notarization, and auto-updates.
Partner directly with product leaders and designers to define technical roadmaps and expand what is viable on local machines.

Requirements

Minimum of five years of professional software building experience, featuring significant work on client or desktop applications.
Proven track record of shipping and supporting installed software for Windows, macOS, or both.
Working proficiency in Rust or extensive systems programming experience in a comparable language with a strong desire to use Rust.
Comfortable working across the native and web boundary, including React and TypeScript competency.
Practical understanding of OS-level details such as permissions, device access, background processes, and application packaging.
Must be authorized to work in the United States, as visa sponsorship is unavailable for this position.

Practical background in audio capture, digital signal processing, or real-time media pipelines.
Prior use of Tauri or alternative hybrid desktop frameworks.
Experience working with local machine learning models or on-device inference.
