Role Overview

Snowflake is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Cortex Apps team in Menlo Park, US-CA. The position centers on creating the backend infrastructure that supports flagship products such as Snowflake Intelligence, Cortex Agents, and Search. The engineer designs high-performance systems for agent execution, context retrieval, and production deployments.

Key Responsibilities

Architect and scale orchestration engines for complex agentic workflows, maintaining low-latency execution and state management.
Design high-performance systems for Retrieval-Augmented Generation, incorporating vector databases, search indexing, query processing, semantic caching, and metadata extraction.
Develop automated infrastructure for large-scale golden set simulations, error analysis pipelines, and optimization experiments.
Transform raw large language model capabilities into multi-tenant microservices equipped with guardrails and observability.
Direct infrastructure strategy regarding model routing, prompt caching, and token optimization to maintain operational efficiency.

Requirements

Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
Possess seven or more years of experience building distributed systems, high-throughput APIs, or backend infrastructure for artificial intelligence and machine learning products.
Demonstrate proficiency in Go or Java for systems alongside Python for AI orchestration.
Exhibit strong knowledge of database internals, distributed state management, and cloud-native architectures including Kubernetes and FoundationDB.
Bring familiarity with AI plumbing components such as vector indices, agent platforms, and scalable data pipelines.
Show experience in customer-facing technical roles, product judgment, cross-layer debugging, evaluation frameworks for language model systems, and handling ambiguity.

Nice to Have

Experience with query optimization and SQL engine internals.
Background in designing multi-tenant systems for sensitive enterprise data at scale.
Experience developing search infrastructure for large-scale applications.
Direct familiarity with the outlined infrastructure subsystems.
