Read AI is seeking a Senior Software Engineer - Backend (Data) to join the team in Seattle or remotely. This full-time position suits experienced backend developers who want to build scalable data flows and machine learning infrastructure for an AI-powered meeting platform.

Role Overview

In this role, contributions directly impact the functionality, scalability, and reliability of the platform. The data organization owns critical data flows and machine learning infrastructure across the company, encompassing real-time audio and video processing, database management, transcription services, data processing orchestration, and interactions with third-party large language model providers.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop scalable and reliable backend services and application programming interfaces in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Take full ownership of critical system components across the entire lifecycle, from initial conception through deployment and ongoing maintenance.

Practice rigorous quality assurance methods, including writing unit and integration tests.

Optimize various data processing pipelines and storage solutions.

Integrate multiple third-party services and external data sources directly into the platform.

Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve infrastructure and operational issues to guarantee maximum uptime and system reliability.

Evaluate and implement industry best practices, modern tools, and advanced technologies to continuously improve system maintainability and scalability.

Requirements

Possess a Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or bring seven or more years of relevant industry experience.

Demonstrate proven experience in backend development alongside strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Go.

Exhibit a strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and major cloud computing platforms like AWS or GCP.

Show familiarity with both relational and non-relational databases, backed by expertise in database management and data modeling.

Apply excellent problem-solving capabilities using a pragmatic, results-driven working approach.

Thrive effectively inside a fast-paced startup environment demanding a high degree of autonomy and personal accountability.

Communicate clearly and collaborate well within cross-functional team settings.

Nice to Have

Practical background working with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.

Familiarity with big data processing tools such as Flink and Spark.

Experience utilizing Python libraries and frameworks like Pydantic, FastAPI, and SQLAlchemy.

Exposure to continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines alongside general DevOps practices.

The base pay range for this position is $190,000 to $210,000 per year, supplemented by equity and benefits. Individual total compensation varies based on relevant qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location. Benefits include low deductible health plans, flexible time away, and family leave programs. Note that visa support and sponsorship are not available for this role.
