Role Overview

Read AI is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and scale the backend systems that drive its AI-driven productivity platform. Operating within a fast-paced environment, this senior contributor helps advance technology that brings intelligence to meetings, messages, and emails. The position involves full ownership of the software development lifecycle, from system architecture to monitoring and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Architect, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Python, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, and AWS infrastructure.

Build features for data ingestion, third-party integrations like Slack and HubSpot, authorization protocols, and enterprise-grade security.

Manage the complete development lifecycle including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and monitoring.

Partner closely with product managers, frontend engineers, and data scientists to deliver innovative platform solutions.

Drive technical standards through code reviews, peer mentorship, and engineering best practices.

Take part in on-call rotations to maintain the observability, reliability, and performance of backend infrastructure.

Scale systems effectively to handle rapid user growth and increasing data demands.

Requirements

Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in backend software engineering with a history of shipping production systems.

Strong proficiency in Python or similar languages such as Java, C++, or Node.js.

Demonstrated experience designing and building distributed, cloud-native systems, ideally on AWS.

Thorough understanding of API design, authentication and authorization standards like OAuth2 and JWT, and security best practices.

Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous deployment, infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, and modern DevOps methodologies.

Excellent communication skills capable of explaining complex technical topics to diverse audiences.

Strong sense of personal ownership, curiosity, and commitment to continuous learning.

Nice to Have

Prior experience working within a startup or fast-paced corporate environment.

Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
